Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – The FDU-Florham Devils field hockey team's postseason aspirations came to an end on Tuesday evening, when they were defeated by Manhattanville College 4-2 in their final Freedom Conference match of the season.
The Devils (6-12, 2-5 MAC) needed a victory to keep their MAC tournament hopes alive but were unable to conquer the Valiants.
The Valiants (11-8, 4-3 MAC) jumped on the board early in the match, when Amanda DeChant fired a blast past Devils goalkeeper
Tess Loughran (Newton, N.J./Newton), for her 30
th goal of the season.
FDU-Florham countered when
Nicole Hall (Collingswood, N.J./Collingswood) notched her first goal of 2013, courtesy of an assist from
Stephanie Geskes (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East).
The Devils claimed the lead when
Niki Ikeda (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) knocked in a rebound off of a missed shot by Geskes.
From the 45
th minute on, the game belonged to Manhattanville sophomore Rylee McGuire. McGuire evened the score at the 44:09 mark and six minutes later netted her second goal, to put the Valiants in front 3-2.
In the game's final minute, McGuire added an empty net insurance goal to provide the Valiants with a 4-2 victory. Although the Devils were outshot 22-7 on the night, they managed to keep the game tight until that final score.
Despite the win, Manhattanville will also miss out on postseason play, as the Misericordia University Cougars claimed the final conference playoff spot.

The team wraps up their 2013 season at home this Thursday, October 31
st at 7 p.m. with the annual senior day. The Devils will be honoring their three seniors,

Tess Loughran and
Jaime Unkel prior to the game.
