Devils Drop Close One to Lady Monarchs

Box Score MADISON, N.J. --- FDU- Florham's field hockey team fell 2-1 to King's College in a tightly contested game on Saturday afternoon at Robert T. Shields Field.

The game was knotted up at one goal apiece until Alyssa Monaghan scored the game winner in the final two minutes of regulation.

Monaghan's goal kept the Monarchs postseason hopes alive, as King's improved to 7-6 on the season and 1-3 in Freedom Conference play. With the loss, FDU drops to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

The scoring began when Shelby Madden capitalized on a penalty corner to put the Monarchs on top 1-0. At the 11:42 mark of the first half,  the Devils notched their lone goal of the day, when Nichole Pavlak (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland) found the back of the cage to tie the game at one.

The score remained tied until the 68:39 mark when Monaghan broke through the Devils defense and provided King's the victory.

King's held a 12-10 shot advantage, while the Devils had the upper hand in penalty kicks, 16-8.

Devils goalkeeper Tess Loughran (Newton N.J./Newton) put forth a strong effort in the loss, totaling double-digit saves (10).

Next up for the Devils:
The Devils will attempt to reverse their luck when they square off against Rowan University this Monday, October 21st under the lights at Robert T. Shields Field with face-off set for 7 p.m.
