Andrews' Overtime Goal Downs Greyhounds

Box Score MADISON, N.J. -- After nearly 73 minutes of scoreless field hockey, senior forward Lanie Andrews (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville) netted the game-winning goal that provided the FDU-Florham Devils (6-7, 2-1 MAC) a 1-0 victory over Moravian College on Wednesday night at Robert T. Shields Field.

In the first 13 minutes of action, the Greyhounds (8-7) totaled seven penalty corners, but the FDU defense stood tall and turned away each scoring opportunity.

The two teams were unable to put a shot on the cage in the final 24 minutes of regulation despite several penalty corners.

Only 49 seconds into overtime, the Greyhounds earned a penalty corner but were turned away once again by the stout Devil defense. FDU countered 2:32 into the overtime period when Andrews fired a pass by Niki Ikeda (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) into the cage for the game winner.

Devils goalkeeper Tess Loughran (Newton, N.J./Newton) made six saves in the win and fought off an aggressive Greyhound attack which was led by
Keriann Badessa. Badessa was responsible for four of the Greyhounds six shots on goal.

Andrews' goal is her team-leading eighth and the senior's second game-winner of the season. Last year, when the two teams met, Andrews was again responsible for the game's only goal in a 1-0 Devils victory.

This is the second consecutive overtime contest for the Devils, who are 2-2 on the season in extra-time games.

Next up for the Devils:
FDU looks to make it two straight when they take on Freedom Conference rival King's (Pa) at Robert T. Shields Field this Saturday, October 19th with faceoff slated for 1 p.m.
