Annie George (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) turned away six shots on Tuesday night, as the FDU-Florham women's soccer team (5-6) defeated Alvernia University 2-0, handing the Crusaders (8-2-1) their second loss of the season.
After a scoreless first half, reigning Freedom Conference Player of the Week,
Claire Donohue (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional) broke through firing a bullet just inside the left post for the game's first goal.
Fifteen minutes later, senior forward
Samantha Messina (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) drove home an insurance goal on a long breakaway, resulting in the 2-0 final. Messina's goal was assisted by Donohue and
Brittni Calleo (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional).
Donohue's goal was her team-leading seventh of the season. Messina and Donohue are currently tied for the team lead in assists with four a piece.
With the hard-fought victory, the Devils have now won back-to-back games for the second time this season and will look to stay hot as they begin conference play later this week.
