Box Score PURCHASE, NY - With the College at Florham Devils leading by a score of 56-54 with 9:04 to go in the game, sophomore forward
Kyra Dayon scored 10 of FDU's next 12 points while the defense held Manhattanville to just eight points in the last nine minutes as the Devils pickd up an 84-64 victory in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Devils improved to 13-1 (3-0 Freedom) and have now won 12 straight games. Manhattanville dropped to 7-6 (0-3 Freedom).
For the second straight game, the Devils got off to a bit of a slow start as they trailed by a score of 17-10 with 7:35 left in the first half. FDU then ripped off a quick 10-0 run over the next two minutes to take a 20-17 lead thanks to eight points from sophomore guard
Leigh-Ann Lively. With the game tied at 23-23 and 3:10 remaining, FDU closed the half on a 12-6 run to take a 35-29 advantage into intermission.
The Devils increased their lead to 10, 50-40, with 13:52 to go in the game but the Valiants responded with a 14-6 run over the next five minutes to close to within 56-54. That's when Dayon took over though, as she got to the rim at will and either scored a layup or went to the foul line to tally 10 of FDU's next 12 points to give the Devils a 68-61 lead with 4:23 to play. The defense took over from there, smothering Manhattanville and allowing only three points down the stretch while five different players scored 16 points on offense to give FDU the 84-64 win.
FDU was extremely balanced on the stat sheet with Dayon finishing the game with 21 points, eight rebounds, six steals and four assists. Sophomore forward
Delisha Thompson recorded 16 points, nine rebounds and three steals, sophomore guard
Kara Dayon came off the bench for 12 points and 10 boards, freshman center
Rachel Groom tallied 13 points, and Lively notched 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Misericordia beginning at 1 pm.
