Box Score MADISON, NJ - The #25 College at Florham Devils had four players score in double figures, led by 13 points apiece from sophomore forwards
Kyra Dayon and
Delisha Thompson, on their way to a 65-60 victory over Manhattanville in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Devils improved to 19-1 (9-0 Freedom) while the Valiants dropped to 9-10 (2-7 Freedom).
It was a back-and-forth affair over the first ten minutes of the first half as the game was tied at 15-15 with 8:30 remaining. Manhattanville then grabbed a 21-17 lead with 6:36 to go and the two squads traded buckets for the next four minutes as the Valiants held a five-point edge, 29-24, with 2:34 to play. Sophomore guard
Kara Dayon got a layup with 1:35 left to make it 29-26 but Manhattanville scored the final points of the half to take a 31-26 advantage into intermission.
The Devils started strong to begin the second half, opening with a 13-4 run to take a 39-35 lead five minutes in thanks to nine points from freshman center
Rachel Groom. The Valiants cut it to one, 39-38, at the 13:25 mark but FDU responded with a 12-6 run to take a 51-44 lead with 8:59 to go. Manhattanville came back again, this time cutting their deficit to 51-48 with 5:41 left, but the Devils ripped off a 10-4 run to up their lead to nine, 61-52, with 1:00 to play. The Valiants kept fighting, as they did all night, pulling to within four, 64-60, with 0:15 remaining but Thompson hit a free throw with 0:12 left to seal the 65-60 win.
Kyra Dayon added 11 rebounds to go along with her 13 points while Thompson pulled down six boards. Groom recorded 11 points and six rebounds, sophomore guard
Leigh-Ann Lively tallied 11 points, and junior guard
Jalessa Lewis finished with six points, seven assists, four rebounds and four steals.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at King's beginning at 1 pm.
