Three At Buzzer Goes Off As Devils Fall To Valiants, 63-60

Box Score MADISON, NJ - Trailing by thee with under ten seconds remaining in regulation, senior guard Mike Williamson got a decent look at a potential game-tying three-pointer but it was just off to allow Manhattanville to pick up a 63-60 victory over the College at Florham Devils in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 9-11 (4-5 Freedom) while the Valiants improved to 9-11 (3-6 Freedom).

FDU got off to a wonderful start over the first ten minutes of the game, opening up a 22-11 lead thanks to 10 points from Williamson and eight points from junior forward Will Green.  The lead was eight points, 27-19, with 5:28 to go when the Valiants went on a 12-4 run to trim their deficit to 33-31 with 0:43 remaining.  Junior guard Kevin McTiernan scored the final bucket of the half with 0:05 left to give the Devils a 35-31 advantage heading into halftime.

It was Manhattanville's turn to start a half strong, as the Valiants opened the second stanza with a quick 9-2 run to grab a 40-37 lead with 15:48 to go.  The Devils responded by scoring the next six points to take a 43-40 lead two minutes later but the Valiants got those six points right back and led 46-43 with 10:51 to play.  FDU took a 49-48 advantage after two free throws from Green with 8:54 remaining but Manhattanville reeled off an 8-2 run over the next three minutes go up by a count of 56-51.  The Devils dug in and fought back, tying the game at 58-58 with 3:19 to play but Manhattanville drilled a huge three-pointer on their next possession to take a 61-58 lead with 2:36 left.  Green hit a layup on FDU's next possession to cut it to 61-60 but the Valiants responded as they did all night with a bucket to make it 63-60 with 1:55 remaining.  Neither team could get anything to fall down the stretch as a slew of turnovers and missed shots dominated the final minute until Manhattanville got fouled with 0:10 left.  The Valiants missed the front end of a one-and-one and FDU pushed the ball up the court where Williamson came off a ball screen and tried the game-tying three that just missed allowing Manhattanville to escape with the win.

Green finished the game with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds while Williamson poured in 16 points.  Sophomore guard Kevin Furlong tallied six points, four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at King's beginning at 3 pm.
