Box Score DOYLESTOWN, PA - Trailing for the first time in the second half in nearly a month, 53-51 with 8:49 to go, the College at Florham Devils closed the game on a 20-9 run to earn a hard-fought 71-62 victory over Delaware Valley in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Devils improved to 17-1 (7-0 Freedom) while the Aggies dropped to 7-11 (1-6 Freedom).
FDU jumped out to a 21-11 lead with 9:41 left in the first half thanks to 10 points from sophomore forward
Kyra Dayon. The Aggies responded with an 11-2 run to close to within 23-22 with 6:10 left but the Devils came right back with a run of their own, an 11-2 outburst to grab a 34-24 advantage with 2:56 to go. DVC came right back however, finishing the half on an 8-2 run to make it 36-32 in favor of FDU heading into halftime.
The two squads went back-and-forth to start the second half with FDU never getting their lead over five, and it the score was 49-44 with 12:15 remaining. The Aggies then went on a 9-2 spurt over the next four minutes to grab a 53-51 lead with 8:49 to go. The Devils dug deep and responded with the game-closing 20-9 explosion to earn the 71-62 win. During the run over the last eight minutes, the game was tied at 57-57 when sophomore guard
Kara Dayon buried a huge jumper to put FDU up two. Then with a four-point lead, 61-57, and 2:47 to play,
Kara Dayon drilled a three-pointer form the top of the key to put the Devils up 64-57. The Dayon sisters then combined to go 5-for-6 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
Kyra Dayon finished the game with 24 points, seven rebounds and four assists while
Kara Dayon notched 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Sophomore guard
Leigh-Ann Lively came off the bench for 17 points while sophomore forward
Delisha Thompson tallied nine points and 11 rebounds.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at home for Alumni Day against Misericordia beginning at 1 pm.
