Kyra Dayon tallied 23 points and 12 rebounds while sophomore guard
Leigh-Ann Lively came off the bench for 22 points to help the College at Florham Devils beat Wilkes, 64-47, in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 16-1 (6-0 Freedom) while the Colonels dropped to 10-6 (2-4 Freedom).
After the Devils jumped out to a 13-9 lead with six minutes gone by in the first half, Wilkes went on a 14-0 run to grab a 23-13 advantage with 7:55 to go. FDU came right back though, reeling off a 12-0 run of their own to take a 25-23 lead with 3:08 remaining thanks to eight points from Lively. The Colonels tied it up at 27-27 with 1:18 to play but the Devils scored the final three points of the half to take a 30-27 lead into the locker room.
FDU, and Dayon in particular, came out on fire to start as they ripped off a 21-6 run over the first ten minues of the second stanza. Dayon erupted for 13 points during the run to lead the Devils. The Colonels didn't go away however, cutting it to 10, 51-41, with 7:58 to go but the Devils put the pedal down and got their lead right back up to 17, 58-41, with 5:06 remaining. FDU kept their lead in the teen's for the remainder of the game to cruise to the victory.
Aside from Dayon and Lively, freshman center
Rachel Groom finished with seven points and nine rebounds while sophomore forward
Delisha Thompson added seven points and five boards.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Delaware Valley beginning at 6 pm.
