Mike Williamson added 12 points off the bench to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 63-59 win over Wilkes in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 8-8 (4-2 Freedom) while the Colonels dropped to 7-9 (0-6 Freedom).
FDU opened up an 11-5 lead after a layup by Green with 14:06 left in the first half but Wilkes cut it to 14-11 three minutes later. The Devils responded with a quick 9-3 run to grab a 23-14 advantage with 7:28 to go. After the Colonels scored on their next possession, the two squads went through a four minute drought were neither team could get a shot to go. The Devils pushed their lead to 11, 27-16, with 2:21 left but Wilkes closed the half on a 7-2 run to cut FDU's lead to 29-23 heading into intermission.
The Devils had an eight-point lead, 43-35, with 11:33 left in the game but Wilkes came right back to cut it to three, 45-42, three minutes later. FDU ripped off a quick 8-0 run to go back up by 11, 53-42, with 6:48 remaining but as they did all day, Wilkes came right back. The Colonels went on a 13-4 run to pull to within two, 57-55, with 1:50 to go. On the next possession, freshman guard
Nick Acito hit a floater in the lane to make it 59-55 but Wilkes got a free throw to cut it to three, 595-6, with 1:12 remaining. With 0:44 to play, Sykes drove the baseline and dropped off a pretty pass that senior forward
Derek Hall converted to put FDU up five, 61-56, and Sykes and Hall each hit a free throw down the stretch to help the Devils to the 63-59 victory.
Hall finished with seven points and seven rebounds while junior forward
Matt Argudo notched five points and six boards off the bench.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Delaware Valley beginning at 8 pm.
