DOYLESTOWN, PA – Sophomore quarterback Aaron Wilmer went 17-of-19 for 236 yards and two touchdowns to lead Delaware Valley to a 63-3 victory over the College at Florham Devils in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 1-2 (1-1 MAC) while the Aggies improved to 2-2 (2-1 MAC).
FDU got the ball to start the game and began with fantastic field position after Delaware Valley kicked off out of bounds. Going with a quick no-huddle offense, the Devils moved down to the Aggie 26-yard line where they faced a third-and-eight. After a gain of one, the Devils elected to go for it on fourth down but turned it over on downs after an incomplete pass. The Aggies responded by going 75 yards in nine plays to take a 7-0 lead on a 12-yard touchdown run by Wilmer with 7:53 left in the first quarter. After a three-and-out by FDU, the Aggies embarked on a 13-play, 56-yard drive capped by a four-yard touchdown run from junior running back Kyle Schuberth that gave Delaware Valley a 14-0 lead with 14:57 left in the second quarter.
On their first possession of the second quarter, junior quarterback Mike Santos was intercepted at the FDU 38-yard line and Delaware Valley ran it back to the 21-yard line to set up another series. On fourth-and-two from the 13-yard line, the Aggies went for it and picked up the first down to the six-yard line. Schuberth punched it in from six yards out on the next play to give Delaware Valley a 21-0 lead with 12:25 to go in the half. FDU responded with its best drive of the day thus far, moving down to the Aggie seven-yard line where they faced fourth down. The Devils got on the board with a 24-yard field goal by senior kicker Travis Mullen to make it 21-3 with 7:23 remaining in the second quarter. The Aggies got those points back and then some on the first play of their next possession as freshman running back Alquann Jones burst up the middle for an 82-yard touchdown run to make it 28-3 with 7:04 to play. The Devils missed a 44-yard field goal on their next drive and the Aggies responded by making it 35-3 with 3:20 remaining in the half on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Wilmer to junior wide receiver Lewis Vincent. Del Val added one more score before the half when Wilmer hit senior wide receiver Chris Ruiz for a 12-yard touchdown pass to make it 42-3 with 0:27 left.
Delaware Valley added three more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.
In the game, Santos went 13-of-26 for 99 yard and an interception while senior running back Jon Bennett carried five times for 23 yards. Defensively, senior linebacker Kyle Molitoris notched six tackles with one coming for loss while freshman linebacker Kevin Daly tallied two sacks.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, September 28, 2012, at Wilkes beginning at 1 pm .
