Big Run Carries #1 Misericordia Over #4 FDU, 76-73

Box Score DALLAS, PA - Trailing 45-37 with 14:13 left in the game, top-seeded Misericordia went on a 22-7 run over the next seven minutes to grab a 59-52 advantage on their way to a 76-73 win over the fourth-seeded College at Florham Devils in the Semifinals of the Freedom Conference Tournament on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 13-13 and will now await a bid to the ECAC Metro Region Tournament while the Cougars improved to 20-6 and will host second-seeded Wilkes in the tournament championship on Saturday.

The Devils got exactly the start they were looking for, racing out to a 12-4 lead with 5:36 gone by in the first half.  Misericordia came right back though, going on a 20-9 run to take a 24-21 lead with 5:35 left in the half.  It was FDU's turn to respond as senior guard Adam Katz scored seven of FDU's next 10 points to help the Devils take a 31-26 lead with 2:50 remaining.  After Misericordia cut it to two, 31-29, with 1:34 to go, junior guard Mike Williamson scored the final bucket of the half with 1:11 to play to give the Devils a 33-29 lead at intermission.

FDU got off to another great start to open the second stanza as they built an eight-point lead, 45-37, after a three-pointer from sophomore forward Andrew Stress with 14:13 left in the game.  That's when Misericordia made their move though, reeling off a 22-7 run to take a 59-52 lead with 7:11 to go.  The Cougars still had a seven-point edge, 64-57, with 5:00 remaining but back-to-back buckets from sophomore forward Will Green pulled the Devils to within three, 64-61, with 2:57 to play.  The two squads then traded baskets over the next two minutes with the Cougars still up by seven, 70-63, with 1:11 left.  Katz hit a jumper with 1:00 to go to make it 70-65 but Misericordia then went 4-for-4 from the foul line to increase their lead to 74-65 with 0:24 to go.  The Devils didn't quit though, as Williamson drained a three to make it 74-68 and FDU then forced a turnover which Williamson converted into a layup to close the gap to 74-70 with 0:06 remaining.  The Cougars then hit two more free throws to make it 76-70 before Williamson closed out the scoring with another three with 0:01 on the clock.

Katz led the way for the Devils, finishing with 22 points and four assists while Stress added 12 points and five rebounds.  Sophomore guard Trevor Sykes tallied 12 points and four boards, Williamson recorded 10 points and four board off the bench, junior forward Derek Hall notched nine points, five rebounds and five assists, and Green posted six points and six rebounds.
