Devils Fall To DeSales In Final Seconds, 59-58

Box Score CENTER VALLEY, PA - Senior guard Adam Katz scored a game-high 32 points but DeSales got a jumper with 0:09 left in the game to beat the College at Florham Devils by a score of 59-58 in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 11-12 (6-6 Freedom) while the Bulldogs improved to 14-9 (7-5 Freedom).

The Bulldogs opened up a 19-14 advantage with 8:58 to go in the first half when the Devils reeled off an 18-6 run to grab a 32-25 lead with 0:15 remaining in the half.  Katz had eight points in the run for FDU.  DeSales came right back down the court though, and scored the final bucket of the half with 0:03 on the clock to trim the FDU lead to 32-27 heading into the locker rooms.

FDU grabbed a nine-point lead, 41-32, early in the second half after a three-pointer from junior guard Mike Williamson but DeSales responded with a 13-2 run to take a 45-43 lead with 8:51 to play in the game.  Sophomore forward Andrew Stress then knocked in back-to-back three-pointers to put the Devils back on top by four, 49-45, just a minute later.  The two squads then went back-and-forth after that with neither team holding mor ethan a three-point edge for the next seven minutes.  With the Devils trailing by one, 57-56, and 0:26 remaining, Katz was fouled and buried two free throws to give FDU a 58-57 edge.  After a timeout, DeSales came down and buried a jumper from the elbow to take a 59-58 lead with 0:09 to go.  The Devils got one last look at a desperation three as time expired but it was no good, allowing DeSales to pick up the win.

Katz finished the game with four assists and two steals to go along with his 32 points while Stress recorded 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at home for Senior Day against Eastern beginning at 8 pm.
