Balanced Effort Leads Devils Past Manhattanville, 69-66

Box Score PURCHASE, NY - Freshman forward Kyra Dayon had 26 points and eight rebounds, junior guard Tasza Carter poured in 17 points and sophomore center Melissa DeHaas finished with 12 points and 10 boards to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 69-66 victory over Manhattanville in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Devils improved to 10-10 (4-5 Freedom) while the Valiants dropped to 6-13 (1-8 Freedom).

FDU jumped out to a 22-15 lead with 10:06 to go in the first half before Manhattanville went on a 15-9 run to close to within 31-30 with 2:18 remaining.  The Devils came right back though and scored the final five points to take a 36-30 lead at intermission.

The Devils looked like the would cruise to the win in the early stages of the second half as they opened with an 18-8 run to grab a 54-38 advantage with 13:40 left in the game.  The Valiants slowly responded though, embarking on a 28-11 run over the next 11 minutes to take a 66-65 lead with 2:22 to play.  FDU dug in on defense and didn't let Manhattanville score for the rest of the game while Carter took over on offense, knocking home a jumper with 2:09 to go to give FDU a 67-66 lead.  The two teams then went scoreless for the next two minutes until Carter was fouled with 0:07 remaining.  She calmly sank both freebies and the Devils forced a turnover on defense to secure the win.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at home for Alumni Day against King's beginning at 1 pm.
