Devils Downed By DeSales, 82-71, In Conference Opener

Box Score CENTER VALLEY, PA - The College at Florham Devils were defeated by DeSales, 82-71, in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-3 (0-1 Freedom) while the Bulldogs improved to 3-2 (1-0 Freedom).

DeSales opened up a 10-3 lead four minutes into the contest but the Devils went on a 9-3 run to close to 13-12 with 13:06 remaining in the first half thanks to seven points from junior guard Trevor Sykes.  The Bulldogs came right back however, and slowly built their lead into double digits until they took a 48-31 advantage into the locker room for halftime.

FDU trimmed their deficit to 14, 56-42, after a layup by freshman guard Nick Acito five minutes into the second half but DeSales responded again, this time with a 13-5 run to grab a 69-47 lead with 9:53 to go.  With things looking bleak, the Devils inserted the five-man unit of junior center Matt Argudo, junior forwards John Flete and Arlington Rowley, sophomore guard Kevin Furlong, and freshman guard Calvin Lofton to change the tempo of the game.  The five, led by Furlong and Flete, whittled the deficit down to nine points, 75-66, with 2:59 to play after a jumper from Flete but unfortunately that was as close as FDU would get as DeSales went 7-for-8 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the victory.

Senior guard Mike Williamson scored a team-high 16 points while Sykes added 15 points.  Senior forward Derek Hall tallied 11 points while Furlong notched nine points and three steals.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at home against King's beginning at 3 pm.
