Box Score ST. DAVIDS, PA - After falling behind by a score of 5-0, the third-seeded College at Florham Devils reeled off four straight goals to cut it to 5-4 but unfortunately that was as close as they would get as FDU was defeated by second-seeded Eastern in the Semifinals of the Freedom Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Devils had not picked up a stick since last Friday due to Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 10-10 on the season and will await a bid to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament while the Eagles improved to 14-5 and will go on to play top-seeded King's in the Freedom Conference Tournament Finals.
Eastern started the scoring at the 23:21 mark and made it 2-0 just three minutes later. The Eagles grabbed a 3-0 edge with 7:31 left in the first half before making it 4-0 3:38 into the second half. Eastern took a 5-0 advantage at the 40:19 mark but the Devils showed signs of life by cutting it to 5-1 just 0:31 later on a goal by senior forward
Leanna Grotyohann. FDU made it 5-2 three minutes later when senior forward
Victoria Nedo knocked home a shot and senior midfielder
Kelsey Kistle cut it to 5-3 at the 45:02 mark off a feed from freshman defender
Stephanie Geskes. The action slowed down a little after that until junior forward
Lanie Andrews converted a breakaway with 8:35 left in the game to pull the Devils to within 5-4. Eastern came right back though, and put the game away with two goals in a 0:34 span at the 65:11 mark and the 65:45 mark to seal the victory.
Junior goalkeeper
Tess Loughran suffered the loss, playing the first 41:56 and allowing five goals while making seven saves.
