Devils Do It Again; Beat Alvernia In Overtime Of ECAC Semis

Box Score ANNVILLE, PA - For the second consecutive game, the College at Florham Devils won a 2-1 game in overtime in the ECAC Tournament, this time knocking off fourth-seeded Alvernia in the Semifinals after beating top-seeded Wesley on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 12-10 and will go on to the Finals to play third-seeded Stevens after the Ducks downed second-seeded and tournament host Lebanon Valley.  Alvernia finished their season with a record of 11-10.

After a scoreless first thirty minutes, Alvernia got on the board first with 4:48 left before halftime.  With time running out on the Devils and things looking bleak, junior forward Lanie Andrews stepped up and played the role of hero.  Andrews tied the game at 1-1 with 8:27 to go in regulation when she knocked home a rebound.  Then with 7:53 gone by in overtime, Andrews struck again for the game-winner when she converted a fastbreak feed from senior midfielder Kelsey Kistle to give FDU the opportunity to play for the title.

The two squads played even throughout the entire contest as Alvernia held a 13-11 edge in shots while FDU had a 10-7 advantage in penalty corners.  Also for the second straight game, freshman goalkeeper Amy Defnet was fantastic in the cage as she made six saves to earn the victory.

The Devils return to action on Sunday, November 11, 2012, in the Finals of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament against third-seeded Stevens at Lebanon Valley College beginning at 3 pm.
