Devils Drop Wild One In Overtime To Gwynedd-Mercy, 4-3

Box Score MADISON, NJ - Trailing 3-2 with 4:07 left in regulation, freshman forward Alicia Grotyohann found the back of the game to tie the game at 3-3 but Gwynedd-Mercy scored with 3:26 gone by in overtime to beat the Devils by a score of 4-3 in non-conference action on Friday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 6-6 on the season.

The Griffins got on the board first at the 19:53 mark and held that lead throughout the remainder of the first half before FDU tied it at 1-1 with just under ten minutes gone by in the second half when senior midfielder Kelsey Kistle lobbed a shot over the goalie's head from 10-yards out.  GMC responded almost immediately, taking a 2-1 lead just five minutes later but the Devils came right back this time, as senior forward Leanna Grotyohann knocked in a pass from senior forward Victoria Nedo to tie the game at 2-2 with 15:28 left in regulation.  The Griffins then jumped out to a 3-2 advantage with 6:27 remaining but as they did all evening, FDU came up with a response.  This time it was Alicia Grotyohann's turn for the heroics as she knocked home a rebound to tie it up at 3-3 with 4:07 to play.  Each squad had an opportunity for the game-winner down the stretch of regulation but neither team could capitalize.  Early in the extra session, it looked like the Griffins would pick up the win but senior defender Corey VanOrden made a diving stop to keep the game alive.  It was long after that though, that GMC scored the game-winner on a long pass up the middle that resulted in the winner.

Junior goalkeeper Tess Loughran suffered the loss, making six saves.

The Devils return to action on Monday, October 8, 2012, at home against Misericordia beginning at 4 pm.
