Banged Up Devils Fall To Albright, 45-0

Box Score

READING, PA – With five starters missing on offense due to injury, the College at Florham Devils were defeated by Albright by a score of 45-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 1-5 (1-4 MAC) while the Lions improved to 4-2 (3-2 MAC).

After a stalled possession by each team to start the game, Albright took over on the FDU 35-yard line after a 13-yard punt.  Three players later, senior running back Ty Hughes took a handoff and raced 27 yards for a touchdown to give Albright a 7-0 lead with 8:22 left in the first quarter.  The Devils moved into Albright territory on their next series thanks to an 11-yard catch by freshman wide receiver Edwin Lara on third down, but FDU couldn't get past the Albright 45-yard line and had to punt.  A great boot from junior punter Dan DiProfio pinned the Lions at their one-yard line, but after the first Albright play moved out to the six, senior wide receiver Scott Pillar lined up in the backfield and carried 94 yards for a touchdown to give the Lions a 14-0 advantage with 3:26 to go in the first.  The Devils again moved into Lions territory on the ensuing series after a 15-yard reception from freshman quarterback Anthony Ognibene to junior wide receiver Bryan Soletto on third down.  FDU went for it on fourth-and-one on the Albright 31-yard line, but the Lion defensive line got good penetration and forced a turnover on downs.

Near the end of the second quarter, Albrigh went on a six-play, 64-yard drive capped by a seven-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback TJ Luddy to Pillar to take a 21-0 lead with 2:28 left in the half.  After an FDU three-and-out, Albright blocked a punt to take over on the FDU 31-yard line with 0:48 to go.  Hughes took a screen pass down to the 14-yard line on the first play before Luddy hit junior wide receiver Griffin Eldridge for a 14-yard touchdown pass on the second play to make it 28-0 in favor of Albright at halftime.

Albright began the third quarter by going 67 yards in six plays to take a 35-0 lead on a 17-yard touchdown run from senior running back Zach Groff with 9:58 left in the third quarter.  The Lions started the fourth quarter with the ball and produced three points on a 37-yard field goal from freshman kicker Daniel Sobolewski to put Albright on top, 38-0, with 13:42 left in the game.  The Lions tacked on one final score with 6:18 to go when junior running back Uriah Brickhouse took it in from nine yards out to give Albright a 45-0 lead.

In the game, Ognibene went 3-of-10 for 41 yards while rushing 12 times for 38 yards.  Senior running back Frank Trivigno carried 15 times for 66 yards.  Defensively, senior linebacker Charlie Thomas tallied a team-high 10 tackles while junior linebacker Mike Mancino notched five tackles and an interception.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at home against Lebanon Valley beginning at 1 pm.
