Miracle Heave Gives CSI 53-49 Win Over FDU

Box Score MADISON, NJ - With 0:17 to play in the game, and only 0:02 remaining on the shot clock, Staten Island sank a miracle three-pointer from just inside half court to turn a 48-47 lead into a 51-47 advantage on their way to a 53-49 win over the College at Florham Devils in non-conference action on Monday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 6-7.

Staten Island jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead before the Devils responded with a 13-2 run to grab a 13-10 lead with 12:37 left in the first half thanks to six points from junior forward Derek Hall.  The Dolphins came right back with a 15-3 run over the next 11:00 minutes to grab a 25-16 edge with 1:21 to go in the half.  Senior guard Adam Katz sank two free throws with 0:51 to go to trim the deficit to 25-18 heading into intermission.

The Dolphins increased their lead to 35-22 with just 4:17 gone by in the second half before FDU reeled off an 18-2 run to grab a 40-37 lead with 7:09 left in the game.  Hall and Katz each had eight points in the run for the Devils.  CSI came right back again though, getting their lead back with a quick 9-2 run to take a 46-42 advantage with 3:50 to go.  After a free throw from sophomore forward Andrew Stress, Katz made back-to-back fantastic moves in the paint to give the Devils a 47-46 lead with 1:56 to play.  The Dolphins got two free throws with 1:14 remaining to go up 48-47, setting up the final sequence where the desperation heave gave CSI a 51-47 edge with 0:15 to go.  FDU cut it to 51-49 after two free throws with 0:08 left but the Dolphins sank to free throws at their end to secure the 53-49 win.

Hall finished the game with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Katz added 16 points of his own.  Stress tallied eight points and four boards.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at home against Manhattanville in Freedom Conference action beginning at 8 pm.
