MADISON, NJ - Six different players scored at least two goals to give the third-seeded College at Florham Devils a 15-3 win over sixth-seeded Eastern in the Quarterfinals of the Middle Atlantic Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 12-5 and move on to play second-seeded Elizabethtown in the Semifinals. The Eagles finished their season with a record of 7-9.
After Eastern scored the first goal of the game it was all FDU, as the Devils notched the next seven goals to grab a 7-1 lead with 4:41 left in the first half. Senior midfielder Erika Depelteau and sophomore attack Ashley Schlindwein each had two goals in the run. The Eagles then cut it to 7-2 but junior attack Sara Slicklen scored the final two goals of the half to give the Devils a 9-2 halftime advantage.
It was more of the same in the second half, as FDU opened by scoring the first six goals to grab a 15-2 lead with 5:00 left in the game. Eastern rounded out the scoring with a goal with 1:24 to go.
Depelteau and sophomore attack Jennie Jones each finished with three goals while Slicklen, Schlindwein, junior midfielder Breana Kilpatrick and senior midfielder Lindsey Parent had two goals apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Smith was excellent in goal, making 10 saves in the win.
The Devils return to action on Thursday, May 5, 2011, in the Semifinals of the MAC Tournament at Elizabethtown beginning at 4 pm.
