Devils Rally For 10-6 Win Over Alvernia

READING, PA - Down 9-6 with 13:50 left in the game, the College at Florham Devils scored the final six goals of the contest to beat Alvernia, 10-9, in MAC action on Thursday afternoon.  The win also gives FDU the third seed and a home game in the first round of the upcoming MAC Tournament.

With the win, the Devils improved to 10-5 (9-2 MAC) while the Crusaders dropped to 9-5 (6-4 MAC).

In a tightly contested first half, the game was tied at 3-3 with 6:03 remaining.  Senior midfielder Erika Depelteau scored for the Devils with just 0:24 to go in the half and it looked like FDU would take a 4-3 halftime advantage but Alvernia won the draw and scored with 0:12 left to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the break.

Alvernia got off to a great start to begin the second half, scoring four of the first five goals to grab an 8-5 lead with 17:17 left in the game.  Sophomore midfielder Jennie Jones brought FDU to within 8-6 but Alvernia got that goal right back to take a 9-6 lead with 13:50 to play.  That's when FDU dug deep and started their rally.  Jones cut it to 9-7 at the 10:12 mark before senior midfielder Lindsey Parent made it 9-8 just two minutes later.  Junior midfielder Breana Kilpatrick tied it at 9-9 with 7:22 to go and the game remained that way for the next few minutes.  Then with 3:41 remaining, freshman attack McKenzie Loughlin got open and found the back of the net to give the Devils a 10-9 lead.  FDU then stood tall on defense and ran out the rest of the time to earn the hard-fought victory.

Jones led Devils with three goals while Parent added two goals and three assists.  Depelteau and Kilpatrick each tallied two goals while senior attack Sara Franckowiak finished with two assists.  Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Smith earned the win, making 16 saves.

The Devils return to action on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at home against Lycoming for Senior Day beginning at 12 pm.
