MADISON, NJ - For the first time since they joined the conference four years ago, the College at Florham Devils knocked off Manhattanville, 52-45, in Freedom Conference action. Junior guard
Adam Katz led FDU with 16 points.
With the win, the Devils improved to 5-17 (3-8 Freedom) while the Valiants dropped to 12-10 (4-7 Freedom).
FDU got exactly the start they were looking for, opening the game with an 11-2 lead after 5:36 of play. The Devils then went cold though, and Manhattanville tied the game at 16-16 with 7:03 left. FDU came right back with a 10-4 run to grab a 26-20 advantage, thanks to six points from freshman forward
Will Green, with 3:56 to go. The Valiants were able to trim their deficit in half, 29-26, entering intermission.
It was a slow start for each squad to begin the second half with the score 33-29 in favor of the Devils with 8:40 gone by. The Valiants pulled to within two, 41-39, with 5:16 left but the Devils responded with a quick 6-0 run on back-to-back three-pointers by Katz to take a 47-39 lead with 3:44 to go. Manhattanville was able to get to within four, 49-45, with 0:34 to play, but junior guard
Joe Missale knocked down three-of-four free throws to seal the win for FDU.
Green finished the game with nine points and nine rebounds while sophomore guard
Alex Rosario tallied 10 points and six boards. Freshman forward
Matt Argudo chipped in nine points off the bench.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Misericordia beginning at 3 pm.
