Devils Fall To DePauw, 69-65, In Title Tilt

Box Score TAMPA, FL - The College at Florham Devils rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to take a four-point lead with 7:04 to go in the game but DePauw came back for a 69-65 win over the Devils in the Championship Game of the Tampa Bay Shootout on Friday afternoon.  Sophomore forward Will Green posted 11 points and 14 rebounds on his way to being named to the All-Tournament Team.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 4-6.

The Tigers jumped out to a 21-12 lead with 7:25 remaining in the first half but the Devils trimmed it to 25-20 with 3:37 left thanks to four points from junior guard Ardell Roberts.  DePauw came right back though, closing the half with a 10-4 run to take a 35-24 advantage into the locker room.

FDU came out hot to start the second half, scoring eight straight points to close the deficit to 35-32 just two minutes into the second stanza.  The Tigers built their lead back up to nine, 47-38, with 13:37 left to play but the Devils ripped off a 16-3 run over the next six minutes to take a 54-50 lead thanks to eight points from senior guard Adam Katz.  FDU held a 57-55 edge with 5:01 to go when DePauw went on a 10-1 run in the next three minutes to take a 65-58 lead with 2:13 remaining.  The Devils trimmed it to three, 66-63, after two free throws from Katz with 0:33 to play but the Devils had to foul, sending DePauw to the line.  After making the first to increase their lead to four, 67-63, the Tigers missed the second but got the offensive rebound and hit one more free throw to put the game away.

Junior forward Derek Hall tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds while Katz finished with 14 points.  Sophomore guard Trevor Sykes chipped in 10 points.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at home against TCNJ beginning at 7 pm.
