Box Score WILKES-BARRE, PA - Trailing by a bucket, 67-65, with 1:47 left in the game, King's went on a game-ending 10-3 run to earn a 75-70 win over the College at Florham Devils in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 1-4 (1-1 Freedom) while the Monarchs improved to 3-3 (2-0 Freedom).
King's got off to a fast start, opening up a 21-12 lead with 7:55 left in the first half but the Devils responded with a 16-6 run over the next six minutes, capped by an old fashioned three-point point play from junior guard
Ardell Roberts, to take a 28-27 lead with 1:27 to go in the half. Junior guard
Mike Williamson had six points in the run while sophomore forward
Andrew Stress added five points. The Monarchs got their lead right back on a three-pointer though, to take a 30-28 hafltime advantage.
The Monarchs started strong again in the second half, grabbing a 42-34 lead just 4:30 into the second stanza. The Devils came right back again though, reeling off a 19-7 run to grab a 53-49 lead with 9:50 remaining in the game. FDU got points from five different players in the run. As was the case for the remainder of the game though, the Devils could not add to their lead and King's kept within striking distance and tied the game at 65-65 with 2:09 to go in the contest. Will Green gave FDU a 67-65 edge but the Monarchs got stops on defense and put in six straight points to take a 71-67 lead with 0:26 to go. After the Devils made only 1-of-2 at the foul line, King's stepped up and made all four of their free throws to seal the victory.
Green finished the game with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Williamson came off the bench to score 21 points. Stress notched 12 points and five boards, senior guard
Adam Katz tallied 10 points, and junior forward
Derek Hall recorded nine rebounds.
The Devils return to action on Monday, December 5, 2011, at Hunter beginning at 6 pm.
