Box Score HOBOKEN, NJ - Leading 39-38 at halftime, Stevens used a 10-2 run early in the second half and a 10-2 run late in the game to propel them to a 74-65 victory over the College at Florham Devils in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-2 on the season.
With the game tied at 13-13 and 6:54 gone by in the first half, the Devils put in six straight points to grab a 19-13 lead. Stevens came right back to tie it at 19-19 but a three-pointer from sophomore guard
Trevor Sykes gave FDU a 22-19 advantage with 9:14 left. The lead went back-and-forth for the next five minutes with the game being tied at 32-32 with 4:10 remaining. The Ducks then went on a quick, 5-0 run to take a 37-32 lead with 2:43 to go but the Devils came right back with six straight to go back on top, 38-37, with 1:08 left. Stevens got the last bucket of the half though, to take a 39-38 lead into intermission.
The Ducks opened the second half with a 10-2 run to grab a 49-40 lead but FDU responded with a 9-3 run to close to within 52-49 with 9:43 remaining. The Devils were down four, 58-54, with 6:06 to go but Stevens then went on another 10-2 run over the next three miuntes to grab a 68-56 lead. FDU got it back to four, 69-65, with 1:07 to play but the Ducks made their free throws down the stretch to earn the win.
FDU had five players in double figures led by Sykes with 14. Junior forward
Derek Hall had 12 points and seven rebounds while senior guard
Adam Katz, sophomore guard
Andrew Stress and sophomore forward
Will Green each scored 10 points. Junior guard
Ardell Roberts tallied nine points off the bench.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at William Paterson beginning at 5 pm.
