Devils Knocked Off By Stevenson In Blizzard, 36-13

MADISON, NJ - In the snowiest conditions seen at Robert T. Shields Field in quite some time, the College at Florham Devils were defeated by Stevenson by a score of 36-13 in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-8 (0-6 MAC) while the Mustangs improved to 2-6 (1-5 MAC).

On their second drive of the first quarter, Stevenson started with the ball on the FDU 39 yard line.  Two plays later, junior quarterback CJ Hopson hit freshman wide receiver Max Wilson for a 27-yard touchdown pass to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead with 9:36 left in the first quarter.  The Devils stalled on their ensuing possession and Stevenson took over on their own 35 yard line.  The Mustangs then went 65 yards in seven plays, capped by a 48-yard scoring strike from Hopson to sophomore wide receiver Jeromie Miller, to take a 12-0 advantage with 2:49 to go in the first.

With 5:59 to go in the second quarter, FDU got the ball back on their own 28 yard line after forcing a turnover on downs.  Sophomore wide receiver Anthony Fruncillo was moved to quarterback where he led an 11-play, 72-yard drive that resulted in a one-yard touchdown plunge from Fruncillo to move the Devils to within 12-7 with 0:36 to play in the half.  The big play of the drive was a 24-yard completion from Fruncillo to junior wide receiver Jon Bennett down to the one yard line.

The game stayed at 12-7 going into intermission and the Devils got the ball to start the second half but went three-and-out, punting it back to the Mustangs.  Stevenson then went 70 yards in 12 plays to take a 20-7 lead when Hopson hit freshman running back Ryan Crawley for a three-yard touchdown pass with 6:53 to go in the third quarter.

FDU turned it over on downs to begin the fourth quarter and Stevenson took over on the Devils 49 yard line.  On the first play of the drive, Hopson raced around left end for a 49-yard touchdown to put the Mustangs up by a count of 28-7 with 14:41 left in the game.  The Devils came right back though, ripping off 70 yards in six plays to cut their deficit to 28-13 on a two-yard touchdown pass from Fruncillo to senior wide receiver Tim Grey.  On the drive, Fruncillo completed four passes for 60 yards with three of them going to Grey for 47 yards.  Junior safety Joe Mancini forced a fumble on the kickoff, which freshman linebacker Robert Loneker recovered, to set the Devils up with great field position on the Mustang 31 yard line.  After a slew of penalties on both teams, the Devils faced a fourth-and-10 but Fruncillo's pass went incomplete giving the ball back to Stevenson.  The Mustangs then went on a game-icing drive, ripping off 69 yards in 15 plays to grab a 36-13 lead with 0:55 to go on a one-yard touchdown run from Crawley.

Fruncillo finished the game 9-of-16 for 103 yards and a touchdown through the air while rushing 18 times for 74 yards and a score on the ground.  Bennett caught five passes for 58 yards, Grey had three receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown, and senior running back Sean Norton carried 13 times for 38 yards.  Defensively, sophomore linebacker Mike Mancino made a game-high 16 tackles while junior linebacker Charlie Thomas had 10 tackles and a forced fumble.  Senior linebacker Steve Hoverson recorded eight tackles, three for loss, and a sack while senior defensive end Mike Winters tallied eight tackles and a forced fumble.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at King's beginning at 1 pm.
