Hammonds Shoots King's To 76-66 Win Over FDU

MADISON, NJ - Freshman guard Kyle Hammonds scored a game-high 30 points, including six three-pointers, to lead King's to a 76-66 win over the College at Florham Devils in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Monarchs improved to 7-5 (1-2 Freedom) while the Devils dropped to 3-9 (1-2 Freedom).

The Monarchs jumped out to a 15-8 lead with 6:06 gone by in the first half but FDU cut it to 20-17 just three minutes later.  King's responded with a 7-0 run to take a 27-17 advantage with 8:06 left and they held that 10 points lead, 35-25, with 2:39 to go.  FDU was able to trim their deficit to 37-30 at halftime thanks to a three from freshman guard Trevor Sykes and a pair of free throws by junior guard Adam Katz.

FDU started the second half by pulling to within four, 39-35, but King's came right back with an 18-2 run to take a 57-37 lead with 11:08 to go.  The Devils whittled the it down to nine, 64-55, with 4:55 remaining thanks to nine points from Sykes.  King's drilled a three on their next possession to get it back to 67-55 but FDU scored the next six points to pull to within 67-61 with 3:22 to play.  On the next Monarchs possession, junior forward Nick Reisig hit a miracle three as the shot clock expired to swing all the momentum back to King's and the Monarchs then hit their free throws down the stretch while the Devils couldn't convert to earn the 76-66 victory.

Katz finished with a team-high 20 points while Sykes added 15 points off the bench. Freshman forward Will Green tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds and senior center Ricky Fetske pulled down 11 boards off the bench.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at Manhattanville beginning at 8 pm.
