Two Double-Doubles Not Enough In 63-59 Loss To Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA - Senior forward Shealyn Taggart finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds while freshman forward Melissa DeHaas came off the bench to add 16 points and 10 boards but it wasn't enough as the College at Florham Devils were defeated by Wilkes, 63-59, in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 8-10 (4-4 Freedom) while the Colonels improved to 4-14 (1-7 Freedom).

Wilkes held a 14-12 lead with 11:05 left in the first half after a bucket by Taggart and the two teams went back-and-forth until the game was tied at 24-24 with 3:22 to go.  The Devils turned it on a bit from that point, closing the half with a 6-0 run to take a 30-24 lead into the locker room.

FDU held their lead for the majority of the second half, though it never got larger than six, unitl a jumped by Taggart put the Devils up 53-46 with 6:48 left in the game.  Wilkes dug in for a last stand though, going on a 13-5 run to grab a 59-58 advantage with 1:02 to go.  FDU tied the game at 59-59 with 0:34 left after a free throw by freshman guard Brianna Nicholls.  The Devils couldn't stay solid on defense and committed on a foul allowing Wilkes to take a 61-59 edge after two free throws.  FDU then turned the ball over on their next possession and the Colonels got a layup to seal the 63-59 victory.

Aside from Taggart and DeHaas, Nicholls tallied 11 points and six rebounds.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at home against Delaware Valley beginning at 6 pm.
