PURCHASE, NY – Leading 38-25 at halftime, Manhattanville blew the game open with a 20-8 run in the middle of the second half on their way to a 75-46 victory over the College at Florham Devils in Freedom Conference action on Thursday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 6-8 (2-2 Freedom) while the Valiants improved to 9-5 (3-1 Freedom).

Manhattanville got off to a strong start, jumping out to a 17-9 lead with 6:21 gone by in the first half.  The Devils trimmed the margin to five points, 24-19, with 8:47 to go thanks to six points from junior guard Shaleah Alston.  The Valiants came right back though, going on a 7-0 run to take a 31-19 lead and after the Devils cut it to 32-25, Manhattanville closed the half with a 6-0 run to take a 38-25 lead into intermission.

After a jumper from freshman forward Brianna Nicholls to cut the FDU deficit to 43-32 with 15:36 left in the game, Manhattanville ripped off a 20-8 run to grab a 63-40 advantage with 8:42 to go.  The Valiants kept their lead in the twenties for the remainder of the contest as the Devils never threatened again.

Alston led FDU with 11 points while senior forward Shealyn Taggart added 10 points.  Nicholls finished with nine points and six assists.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at DeSales beginning at 1 pm.
