PURCHASE, NY – The College at Florham Devils trailed by only three points, 22-19, at halftime to Manhattanville in Freedom Conference action on Thursday evening, but the Valiants opened the second half with a 19-3 run on their way to a 61-44 victory.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 3-10 (1-3 Freedom) while the Valiants improved to 11-3 (3-1 Freedom).
Neither team could get much going in the first half due to turnovers and poor shooting but Manhattanville had a 20-15 lead with 3:53 left in the half when the Devils went on a quick 4-0 run to cut it to 20-19. The Valiants however, got the last bucket of the half and took a 22-19 advantage into the locker rooms.
Manhattanville came out hot to start the second half, ripping off a 19-3 run to take a 41-22 lead with 13:38 left in the game. FDU cut it to 43-30 after a jumper from senior center Ricky Fetske with 10:19 to go but that was as close as they would get as the Valiants went on a 14-7 run to take a 57-37 lead, cruising to the win after that.
Fetske led the Devils with 10 points and six rebounds while junior guard Adam Katz added nine points. Junior guard Joe Missale and freshman forward Will Green each had seven points.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at DeSales beginning at 3 pm.
