GRANTHAM, PA - Senior attack
Linda Bohn (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) recorded three goals and one assist to lead the third-seeded College at Florham Devils to an 11-8 win over second-seeded Messiah in the Semifinals of the Middle Atlantic Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Devils will now advance to the MAC Championship Game against top-seeded Elizabethtown.
With the win, the Devils improved to 14-5 while the Falcons dropped to 13-4.
FDU got off to the exact start they were looking for as Bohn and freshman midfielder
Samantha Savona (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) scored the first two goals of the game. After Messiah scored their first goal to make it 2-1 with 17:44 left in the first half, the Devils ripped off the next three goals to grab a 5-1 advantage with 11:40 to go. Bohn, Savona and junior midfielder
Erika Depelteau (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro North) scored the three goals in the run. The Falcons came right back with the next two goals to make it 5-3 with 8:16 to play in the half but FDU notched the final two goals of the first stanza on tallies by senior attack
Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) and junior midfielder
Lindsey Parent (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) to up their lead to 7-3 heading into the intermission.
The Devils started the second half the same way as they began the first, by scoring the first two goals to go up 9-3 as Schuster and Bohn found the back of the net. Messiah scored to inch to 9-4 but Depelteau and sophomore attack
Breana Kilpatrick (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) responded for FDU, giving the Devils an 11-4 lead with 11:06 to go. The Falcons scored just a minute later to make it 11-5 but the Devils were able to run off seven minutes before Messiah scored again with 3:47 to go. There was a minor scare for FDU when the Falcons made it 11-7 just 0:17 later, but the defense dug in and the offense ran out the majority of the clock allowing Messiah to only score again with 0:23 remaining as the Devils punched their ticket to the title game on Saturday.
Schuster, Depelteau and Savona each finished the game with two goals for FDU while junior goalkeeper
Kelly Butler (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater) was fantastic in goal as she stopped 10 shots. She got a lot of help from her defense also as seniors
Jackie Gale (New Vernon, NJ/Madison) and
Danielle King (Bryn Athyn, PA/Academy of the New Church) and juniors
Stefanie Sanzari (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) and
Lauren Hansen (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan) frustrated the Messiah offense all afternoon.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, May 8, 2010, when they travel to take on top-seeded Elizabethtown in the Middle Atlantic Conference Tournament Finals beginning at 1 pm.
