Devils Drop Overtime Heartbreaker To Elizabethtown, 13-12

MADISON, NJ - Trailing 10-9 with 0:15 left in regulation, Elizabethtown scored to send the game to overtime.  Then with the game tied at 12-12, the Blue Jays scored with 0:02 remaining to beat the College at Florham Devils, 13-12 (OT), in a battle for first place in the Middle Atlantic Conference on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 10-5 (8-2 MAC) while the Blue Jays improved to 11-3 (10-0 MAC).

Elizabethtown jumped out to a 4-1 lead but the Devils scored the next four goals to grab a 5-4 lead with 4:58 left in the first half.  Sophomore attack Breana Kilpatrick (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) scored two goals in the run for FDU.  After the Blue Jays tied it at 5-5, freshman midfielder Nicole Testa (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) found the back of the net to give FDU a 6-5 halftime advantage.

The Blue Jays started the second half by tallying three of the first four goals to take an 8-7 lead but senior attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) converted a pass from junior midfielder Lindsey Parent (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) to tied the game at 8-8 with 18:54 left.  Elizabethtown got their lead right back just 0:28 later and held a 9-8 edge for the next ten minutes but junior midfielder Sara Franckowiak (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored off a feed from junior defender Stefanie Sanzari (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) to tie up at 9-9 with 8:52 to go.  The score stayed that way until Kilpatrick gave FDU a 10-9 lead with 1:26 remaining.  The Blue Jays didn't quit though, as they got the ball back and got a shot off that hit the post.  In the ensuing scrum, they came up with the ball and converted the game-tying goal with only 0:15 to play.

The Devils got the scoring started in the overtime as senior attack Linda Bohn (Vernon, NJ/vernon Township) scored off a pass from Schuster with 3:46 showing on the clock.  FDU made it 12-10 just 0:41 later on a goal by Kilpatrick.  The Blue Jays cut it to 12-11 with 2:34 to go and tied the game up at 12-12 with 1:05 remaining after the Devils turned it over in their own zone.  FDU won the draw but Bohn's shot was saved with 0:38 left and after Elizabethtown rushed it down the field, they got a shot off that went wide with 0:08 remaining.  The Blue Jays then drew a foul on FDU and converted the free-position shot to earn the hard-fought win.

Kilpatrick finished the game with five goals while Parent had a goal and three assists.  Junior midfielder Erika Depelteau (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro North) tallied two goals and Schuster notched a goal and two assists.  Junior goalkeeper Kelly Butler (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater) was stellar all day, making nine saves.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Eastern beginning at 4 pm.
