Devils Notch First Win, 9-8 Over Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Junior midfielder Lindsey Parent (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored three goals while junior midfielder Erika Depelteau (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro North) added two goals and an assist to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 9-8 win over Montclair State in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 1-1.

FDU started the scoring 4:50 into the contest when Depelteau found sophomore attack Breana Kilpatrick (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) for a 1-0 lead.  The Red Hawks were not deterred though, as they came back with three goals in a row to grab a 3-1 advantage with 20:22 left in the half.  The score remained 3-1 for the next 10 minutes but the Devils closed the half with three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead into intermission.  Depelteau scored the first goal while Parent scored the next two.

The Devils made it 5-3 shortly into the second half when freshman attack Ashley Schlindwein (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) converted a pass from senior attack Linda Bohn (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township).  Montclair made it 5-4 with 23:02 to play but senior attack Kristen Schuster (Centereach, NY/Centereach) and Depelteau scored back-to-back goals to take a 7-4 lead with 17:43 remaining.  It was then Montclair's turn to go back-to-back as they scored twice to cut it to 7-6 before Bohn assisted on a goal from junior midfielder Sara Franckowiak (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) to give the Devils an 8-6 lead with 7:42 to go.  The Red Hawks scored with 3:58 left to make it 8-7 and then they scored again just 0:45 later to tie the game at 8-8.  Parent netted the game-winner for the Devils off a feed from Schuster with 2:10 left but suffered a scare when Montclair State thought they tied the game with 1:10 remaining, however it was disallowed due to a player being in the crease.

In addition to her steady play on offense, Depelteau also picked up six ground balls while junior defender Stefanie Sanzari (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) cause three turnovers and picked up five ground balls.  Junior goalkeeper Kelly Butler (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater) picked up the win, stopping 10 shots.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, March 13, 2010, with their Middle Atlantic Conference opener at King's beginning at 1 pm.
