MADISON, NJ - Senior forward
Danielle Michlovksy (Wind Gap, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) scored a game-high 24 points but the College at Florham Devils were knocked off by King's, 62-58, in Freedom Conference action on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 10-11 (4-6 Freedom) while the Monarchs improved to 11-10 (6-4 Freedom).
King's jumped out to a 17-7 lead with 8:57 gone by in the first half but the Devils ripped off a 9-0 run to pull to within 17-16 with 6:20 remaining in the half. After King's went up 21-16, FDU went on an 8-2 run to take their first lead of the game, a 24-23 advantage with 1:45 to go. The Devils had a 26-25 edge but King's drilled a three-pointer with 0:40 to play in the half to head to the locker room with a 28-26 lead.
The Monarchs started the second half as hot as they started the first, opening with a 9-2 run to take a 37-28 lead. The Devils cut it to 39-35 but King's responded with an 8-2 run to take a 47-37 lead with 12:49 to go. FDU cut it to 48-46 with 8:50 left and after the Monarchs got their lead back up to 53-48, FDU closed to within 55-54 with 2:12 to go. The Devils couldn't get over the hump though as King's went back ahead by five, 59-54, before FDU again closed to within one, 59-58, with 0:28 remaining. The Monarchs made three-of-four from the free throw line down the stretch while holding the Devils scoreless to escape with the 62-58 win.
Michlovsky added eight rebounds to go along with her 24 points while junior guard
Lynn Lopez (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) chipped in 10 points. Sophomore forward
Matil Mangual (Westbury, NY/Clarke) finished with seven points and a team-high 11 rebounds off the bench.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Manhattanville beginning at 6 pm.
