The College at Florham Devils were eliminated from post-season contention with a 67-53 loss to Manhattanville in Freedom Conference action on Thursday evening.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 11-13 (5-8 Freedom) while the Valiants improved to 17-7 (11-2 Freedom).
The Valiants got off to a hot start, beginning the game with a 21-7 lead after 10:00 of play. After FDU cut it to 21-10, Manhattanville went on a 10-4 run to grab a 31-14 advantage with 5:16 left in the first half. The Devils though, closed the stanza with an 8-2 run to enter the locker room down just 33-22.
Manhattanville started hot again, this time opening with an 11-3 run to take a 44-25 lead with just 2:31 gone by. The Valiants kept their lead between 14 and 16 points and held a 52-38 advantage with 10:11 left when they went on a 10-0 run over the next five minutes to take a commanding 62-38 lead. The closest the game got the rest of the way was when the Devils made two free throws with 0:14 to play to make the score 67-53.
Sophomore center Meghan Lentine (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) led FDU with 10 points off the bench while junior forward Shealyn Taggart (Atlantic Highlands, NJ/Middletown South) had nine points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Danielle Michlovsky (Wind Gap, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and senior guard Courtney Young (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) each finished with eight points.
The Devils return to action with their season finale on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at DeSales beginning at 1 pm.
