Adam Katz (Wharton, NJ/Morris Hills) scored a game-high 21 points, junior center
Ricky Fetske (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) had 12 points and 12 rebounds while freshman forward
Derek Hall (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) finished with career-highs of 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 65-59 win over Eastern in Freedom Conference action on Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Devils improved to 4-19 (2-10 Freedom) while the Eagles dropped to 11-12 (7-5 Freedom).
FDU started the game hot, opening up a 13-5 lead with 7:09 gone by in the first half thanks to seven points from Hall. Then it was Eastern's turn to to go on a run, as they ripped off a 16-3 run over the next six minutes to take a 21-16 advantage with 6:22 remaining. The Devils came back to tie it at 22-22 with 3:52 to go but the Eagles went on a 7-2 run to go up, 29-24, with 0:34 to play. Katz made it 29-26 heading into halftime when he nailed a jumper with 0:04 left.
The game went back-and-forth for the first seven minutes of the second stanza before the Eagles took a 41-37 lead with 13:02 to play but FDU responded with a quick 8-0 run to take a 45-41 advantage with 9:52 to go. It remained tight the next eight minutes and the score was tied at 57-57 with 1:56 left. That's when the Devils, and more specifically Katz, took over as he got in the lane at will and drilled six straight free throws to give FDU a 63-57 edge with 0:23 remaining. Eastern got a bucket on their next possession but Katz hit two more free throws with 0:14 to go to seal the win.
Katz finished the game 12-of-12 from the line to go along with five assists while Hall played the best game of his young career both offensively and defensively.
The Devils return to action on Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Manhattanville beginning at 8 pm.
