Second Half Rally Falls Short As Devils Fall To Drew In OT, 78-68

MADISON, NJ - After being down seven points at halftime, 36-29, the College at Florham Devils battled back to take a 64-60 lead with 0:19 left but Drew scored the final four points of regulation and dominated overtime to get the win, 78-68, in a battle of cross-town rivals on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 2-7 while the Rangers improved to 3-4.

Drew got off to a great start, opening with a 16-8 lead but the Devils responded with a 9-2 run to close to 18-17 with 9:25 left in the first half.  Drew built their lead right back up to 10 though, 31-21, with 4:53 to go but FDU came back again, thanks to five points from sophomore guard Mike Williamson, to make it a 31-27 game with 3:27 remaining.  The Rangers closed the half strong though, taking a 36-29 lead into the locker room.

FDU played maybe their best basketball of the night to start the second half, going on a 22-8 run to grab a 51-44 lead with 9:31 left in regulation.  Five different players scored in the run for FDU.  The Devils kept their seven-point lead, 55-48, with 7:54 left but Drew went on a 10-2 run to grab a 58-57 lead with 3:43 to go.  The Devils weren't deterred though, as junior guard Adam Katz hit a three-pointer and freshman forward Will Green hit two free throws to make it 62-58 with 0:28 left.  After a Drew bucket, senior forward George Twill stepped to the line and buried two crucial free throws to put FDU up 64-60 with 0:19 to play.  The Rangers came back and got another bucket to make it 64-62 and then fouled right away.  The Devils missed both free throws however, and Drew raced down the floor and got the game-tying layup with 0:01 remaining to send it into overtime.

It was all Drew in the overtime as the Rangers jumped out to a quick five-point lead, 70-65, with just 1:20 gone by.  The closest FDU got was 73-67 with 1:56 left but Drew knocked down their free throws to earn the hard-fought win.

Williamson finished with a team-high 17 points while Green added 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds off the bench.  Katz put in 12 points while sophomore forward Derek Hall tallied 10 points and seven boards.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, December 11, 2010, with their final game of the first semester at Mount Saint Vincent beginning at 2 pm.
