Devils Let 15-Point Halftime Lead Slip Away, Lose To Hunter In OT

MADISON, NJ - Senior center Ricky Fetske had 15 points, including the 1,000th point of his career, and 18 rebounds but it wasn't enough as the College at Florham Devils let a 35-20 halftim lead slip away and lost to Hunter in overtime, 65-63, in non-conference action on Monday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 2-6 while the Hawks improved to 4-3.

The Devils held a 12-9 lead with 9:13 gone by in the first half when they closed the half with a 23-11 run to grab a 35-20 lead heading into intermission.  Eight different players scored in the run for FDU, which was capped by a three-pointer at the buzzer by senior forward George Twill.

FDU scored the first point of the second half to take a 36-20 lead but Hunter then went on an18-7 run to close their deficit to 43-38 with 10:24 to go in regulation.  The Devils built their lead back up to 10, 52-42, with 5:47 left but the Hawks immediately went on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 54-54 with 0:28 remaining.  FDU had one last chance to get the win in regulation but junior guard Adam Katz missed a jumper.

In the overtime, Katz hit a three on the first possession to put FDU up 57-54 but Hunter scored the next four points to take a 58-57 lead with 3:30 left.  Katz then hit another three before the Hawks got a layup to tie it at 60-60 with 2:41 remaining.  After a free throw from freshman forward Will Green put FDU up 61-60, Hunter scored the next three points all from the free throw line to grab a 63-61 advantage with 0:23 to play.  Green converted a layup to tie the game at 63-63 but Hunter came right back down and drew a foul, hitting both free throws, to go up 65-63 with 0:10 left.  After a timeout, FDU came down and Katz took a shot from the baseline that missed but Green got the rebound and tried a layup with 0:01 remaining but it was blocked allowing Hunter to earn the hard-fought victory.

Katz finished with 18 points and seven rebounds while sophomore forward Derek Hall, sophomore guard Mike Williamson, and sophomore guard Alex Rosario each had six points.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at home against cross-town rival Drew beginning at 7 pm.
