Alston's Monster First Half Leads Devils To 84-50 Win Over Aggies

DOYLESTOWN, PA - Junior guard Shaleah Alston poured in 21 first half points to lead the College at Florham Devils to an 84-50 win over Delaware Valley in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Devils improved to 5-1 (1-0 Freedom) while the Aggies dropped to 3-3 (0-1 Freedom).

After Delaware Valley opened up a 9-3 lead with just under four minutes gone by, FDU went on a 25-11 run to grab a 28-20 advantage with 9:40 left in the first half thanks to 14 points from Alston.  The Aggies closed to 28-24 but the Devils went on another run, this time an 11-2 spurt to grab a 39-26 lead with 5:14 to go.  Del Val brought their deficit into single digits, 39-30, with 4:29 remaining but the Devils used two free throws and a three-pointer to take a 44-31 edge into intermission.

The Devils came out and put the hammer down to begin the second half, opening with a 22-9 run over the first ten minutes of the second half to take a 66-40 lead.  The Aggies never threatened again.

Alston finished the game with 23 points while freshman forward Melissa DeHaas added 15 points and nine rebounds off the bench.  Junior guard Kandace Johnson tallied 14 points and seven boards.
