Devils Squander 11 Point Halftime Lead In 69-64 Loss To Dolphins

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Down 37-26 at halftime, Staten Island opened the second half with a 27-6 run to take a 53-43 lead on their way to a 69-64 win over the College at Florham Devils in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 1-4 while the Dolphins improved to 4-0.

With the score tied at 8-8 and a little over five minutes gone by in the first half, FDU ripped off an 11-0 run to grab a 19-8 lead.  After Staten Island cut it to 21-15 with 7:22 remaning, the Devils went on another run, this time a 16-5 outburst to grab a 37-20 advantage with 0:48 to go.  Junior guard Adam Katz scored eight points in the spurt.  This is where the game began to change in favor of the Dolphins though, as Staten Island scored six points in the final minute to close the gap to 37-26 entering intermission.

FDU scored the first bucket of the second stanza but the Dolphins then went on their 27-6 explosion to grab a 53-43 edge with 10:33 left in the game.  The Devils didn't quit though, closing to 55-53 with 6:34 to go after 10 points from sophomore forward Derek Hall.  It remained a two point game, 65-63, with 1:10 left and the Devils had the ball with a chance to tie the game but couldn't convert and Staten Island hit their free throws down the stretch to escape with the win.

Hall finished with a team-high 18 points to go along with six rebounds while Katz added 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.  Senior center Ricky Fetske tallied 10 points and nine rebounds while freshman forward Will Green notched eight points and eight boards off the bench.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, with their Freedom Conference opener at Delaware Valley beginning at 8 pm.
