Balanced Attack Lifts Devils To 92-73 Win Over Westfield State

NEWARK, NJ - Four different players scored in double figures, led by 27 points (16-of-16 from the foul line) from junior guard Adam Katz, to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 92-73 victory over Westfield State in the Rutgers-Newark Tournament on Friday evening.

With the win, the Devils improved to 1-1 while the Owls dropped to 1-1.

FDU got off to a great start, opening up a 12-2 lead with just under five minutes gone by in the first half.  After Westfield cut it to 12-6, the Devils ripped off a 20-7 run to grab a 32-13 lead with 4:48 to go in the half.  Six different players scored for FDU in the run.  The Owls responed though, pulling to within 34-23 with 1:52 remaining.  The Devils built the lead back up to 16, 39-23, after a Katz three-pointer and took a 39-26 lead into intermission.

Westfield started strong to begin the second stanza, opening with a 14-5 run to close to 44-37 with 4:26 gone by.  The Devils regrouped and went on an 11-2 run to go back up by a score of 55-39 thanks to five points from freshman forward Will Green.  With the score 56-44 and 12:09 left in the game, FDU ripped off a 21-14 run to take a 77-58 lead with 4:19 to go.  Katz had eight points in the run.  The Owls made on last push, closing to 79-69 with 2:42 remaining but FDU buried their free throws down the stretch to earn the win.

Green finished the game with 15 points and eight rebounds while sophomore guard Mike Williamson and sophomore forward Derek Hall each had 10 points.  Senior center Ricky Fetske tallied nine points and five rebounds while junior guard Joe Missale and sophomore guard Alex Rosario each had eight points off the bench.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, November 20, 2010, in the Championship Game of the Rutgers-Newark Tournament against the winner of the City Tech/Rutgers-Newark game beginning at 4 pm.
