Devils Drop Season Opener To William Paterson, 58-44

MADISON, NJ - Despite 11 points and nine rebounds from sophomore forward Derek Hall, the College at Florham Devils dropped their season opener to William Paterson by a score of 58-44 on Monday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-1 while the Pioneers improved to 1-0.

William Paterson jumped out to a 20-4 lead to start the game and led 30-12 with 5:52 left in the first quarter.  Hall followed with a layup to make it 30-15 and the Devils had two chances on the next two possession to cut the lead even more but the Pioneers held and took a 34-16 advantage into halftime.

After the Pioneers opened up a 41-19 lead with 14:43 left in the game, FDU went on a 17-10 run over the next nine minutes, capped by a dunk from senior center Ricky Fetske, to close to within 51-36 with 5:31 to play.  After two free throws from William Paterson, the Devils went on an 8-0 run to make it 53-44 with 1:26 to go.  Fetske and junior guard Adam Katz each had four points during the spurt.  It was a little too late for FDU though, as the Devils had to foul down the stretch and William Paterson converted their free throws to earn the win.

Katz finished with 12 points while Fetske added 10 points and five rebounds.
