Devils Get Off The Schneid With 59-57 Win Over Lebanon Valley

MADISON, NJ - Sophomore guard Adam Katz (Wharton, NJ/Morris Hills) scored a team-high 13 points off the bench to lead the College at Florham Devils to their first win of the season, a 59-57 triumph over Lebanon Valley in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Devils snapped a 16-game losing streak.

The Dutchmen jumped out to a 14-10 lead with 6:41 gone by in the first half and they held a 20-19 lead with 8:57 to go when FDU ripped off a 12-2 to grab a 31-22 lead with 2:26 remaining.  Five different Devils scored in the run.  Lebanon Valley pulled to within six points, 32-26, but the Devils got two free throws from Katz with 0:04 to play to take a 34-26 halftime lead.

FDU held their eight point edge, 39-31, to start the second half but LVC cut the deficit to 39-38 with 14:46 left in the game.  The Devils built their lead back up to six, 46-40, when the Dutchmen embarked on a 15-4 run over the next six minutes to take a 55-50 advantage with 5:52 to go.  It was 56-53 LVC when a dunk by junior center Ricky Fetske (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) and a layup by Katz gave the Devils a 57-56 edge with 1:41 left.  Lebanon Valley hit a free throw to tie the game at 57-57 with 1:29 to play but on the next possession, Katz got free for a foul line jumper to put the Devils up 59-57 with just over a minute to go.  The Devils forced a miss from LVC but Fetske missed two free throws with 0:13 remaining giving the Dutchmen one last chance to send the game into overtime.  LVC came down and got the ball to Joe Meehan who drew Fetske's fifth foul and went to the line to try to tie the game.  He missed the first free throw and then the second on purpose but Katz hauled in the rebound to give the Devils their much anticipated first victory of the season.

Senior forward Andrew Biancosino (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens) finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds while Fetske chipped in nine points and seven boards.  Freshman guard Alex Rosario (Bound Brook, NJ/Bound Brook) added eight points off the bench.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at home against Wilkes beginning at 3 pm.
