Devils Downed By Staten Island, 71-68

MADISON, NJ - With 0:04 seconds left and down by four points, sophomore guard Bobby Faiges (Bayville, NJ/Lakewood Prep) went to the foul line and sank the first free three.  He then missed the second on purpose, got his own rebound and kicked it out to senior forward Andrew Biancosino (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens) who step into the game-tying three-pointer but it rimmed out and Staten Island escaped with a 71-68 win over the College at Florham Devils in non-conference action on Monday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-12.

FDU jumped out to a 12-9 lead with 14:39 left in the first half when Staten Island went on a 15-7 run to grab a 24-19 advantage with 9:40 left.  The Dolphins held a 31-26 edge with 6:06 to go when the Devils ended the half on an 11-3 run to take a 37-34 halftime lead.  Biancosino had eight points in the half-closing run.

Staten Island started the second half on fire, opening with a 21-8 run to take a 55-45 lead with 12:22 to play.  The Dolphins stretched that lead to 13 points, 64-51, with 6:39 left and held a 10 point edge, 68-58, with 2:42 to go.  With the score 71-65 and only 0:26 remaining, Faiges made a driving layup and the Dolphins missed the front end of a one-and-one before junior center Ricky Fetske (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) made two free throws to cut it to 71-67 with 0:08 left.  Faiges forced a Staten Island turnover on the inbounds pass to set up the final 0:04 of action.  FDU got exactly what they wanted, a chance for overtime, but Biancosino's three would not stay down.

Junior forward George Twill (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) led the Devilos with 20 points, his second straight 20 point outing, while Biancosino notched a season-high 19 points.  Fetske had nine points and nine rebounds while Faiges came off the bench with nine points and seven boards.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at home against Manhattanville beginning at 8 pm.
