NEW YORK, NY -
After leading by only a point, 33-32, at halftime, Hunter College erupted for 52 second half points on their way to an 85-71 win over the College at Florham Devils in non-conference action on Monday evening.
With the loss, the Devils end the first semester with a record of 0-7.
The Devils jumped out to a 9-2 lead thanks to seven points from sophomore guard Adam Katz (Wharton, NJ/Morris Hills) but Hunter got right back into it with a 9-0 run to take an 11-9 advantage with 12:54 left in the first half. With the score tied 22-22 with 6:11 to go, the Devils scored five in a row to take a 27-22 lead but Hunter closed the half on an 11-5 run to take a 33-32 lead into intermission.
The two teams played even to start the second stanza with the score being 41-41 with 16:36 to go. That's when the Devils went on a 15-7 spurt to grab a 56-48 lead with 11:19 remaining thanks to points from five different players. FDU could not hold the lead though as Hunter had another half closing run in them, this time it was a 37-15 explosion that ended the game. The Hawks got a big benefit in their run from the free throw line as they went 22-of-26 in the second half and 33-of-38 for the game.
Katz finished the game with a team-high 26 points while junior center Ricky Fetske (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) added 22 points and game-high 11 rebounds.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, January 2, 2010, in the Catholic Tournament against Regis College beginning at 2 pm.
