WILKES-BARRE, PA - Senior forward
Danielle Michlovsky (Wind Gap, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had game-highs of 22 points and 18 rebounds to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 54-45 victory over Wilkes in Freedom Conference action on Friday evening. The Devils held the Colonels to only nine points in the first which played a huge role in the win.
With the win, the Devils improved to 5-4 (2-0 Freedom) while the Colonels dropped to 1-6 (0-2 Freedom).
After Wilkes jumped out to a 4-0 lead with 2:25 gone by in the first half, FDU exploded for a 26-3 run to take a 26-7 advantage with 1:19 left in the first half. Junior forward
Shealyn Taggart (Atlantic Highlands, NJ/Middletown South) had nine points in the run for the Devils. The Colonels were able to score the last bucket of the half but by that time they were down by 17 points, 26-9.
The Devils came out in the second half and got their lead up to 19 points, 32-13, on a jumper by Michlovsky but Wilkes put a scare into FDU by going on a 17-6 run to close the gap to 38-30 with 8:56 left to play. FDU then went up 42-30 before the Colonels made one last ditch effort to get back in the game. Wilkes went on a 10-4 run to close to 46-40 with 2:35 remaining but Michlovsky scored six points down the stretch to seal the win for the Devils.
Taggart finished with 12 points while senior guard
Courtney Young (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) had four points, nine rebounds and four assists.
The Devils return to action on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at home against Ramapo beginning at 6 pm.
