HOBOKEN, NJ -
After leading 35-32 at halftime, Stevens opened the second half with a 27-10 run on their way to a 78-62 win over the College at Florham Devils in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-4 on the season.
FDU got out to a 9-4 advantage with 3:23 gone by in the first half. The Devils held a 16-13 edge but Stevens went on a 9-2 run to grab a 22-18 lead with 9:33 left. Sophomore guard Adam Katz (Wharton, NJ/Morris Hills) then scored seven straight points to put the Devils back ahead, 25-22. The Ducks came right back, ending the first half on a 13-7 run to take a 35-32 lead into intermission.
Stevens was able to get a commanding lead coming out of the break, as they ripped off a 27-10 run to take a 62-42 lead with 7:17 left in the game. The Devils cut the deficit to 72-58 with 2:01 left in the contest but it was too little too late as Stevens was on their way to a 78-62 victory.
Katz finished with 14 points and a team-high six rebounds while sophomore guard Martin Johnson (East Orange, NJ/East Orange Campus) added a team-high 17 points. Freshman guard Bobby Faiges (Bayville, NJ/Lawrence Prep) chipped in 10 points.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, with their Freedom Conference opener at home against Delaware Valley beginning at 8 pm.
