Late Rally Falls Short As Drew Tops FDU, 51-46

MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils rallied from a ??-point second half deficit to get within two points but could not get over the hump as Drew held on for a 51-46 win in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 1-2 on the season.

Drew jumped out to a 12-6 advantage with 6:39 gone by in the first half before the Devils cut it to 12-10 just two minutes later.  That's when the Rangers exploded though, going on a 12-3 run over the next six minutes to grab a 24-13 lead with 5:28 left in the half.  FDU was able to trim the lead to five points, 24-19, but Drew took a 28-22 lead into intermission.

The Rangers came out hot to begin the second stanza, building their lead up to 35-23 with 5:00 gone by.  FDU responded immediately though, ripping off 12-2 run over the next seven minutes to cut the deficit to 37-35 with 8:01 left to play.  Junior forward Shealyn Taggart (Atlantic Highlands, NJ/Middletown South) had seven points in the run.  Drew went right back up by eight points, 45-37, with 4:00 remaining but the Devils again cut it to two, 46-44, with 2:51 to go.  After a Drew jumped made it 48-44, the Devils only made 2-of-4 free throws on their next two possessions to pull to 48-46 with 0:16 to play.  FDU fouled and the Rangers made one to go up three but senior guard Courtney Young (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) had a good look at a game-tying three-pointer that rimmed out with 0:10 left and Drew hit two free throws to seal the win.

Young finished the game with 14 points and five rebounds while Taggart had 11 points.  Senior forward Danielle Michlovsky (Wind Gap, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) added seven points and 10 rebounds.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, November 21, at the Amherst Tournament against Amherst beginning at 6 pm.
