Devils Drop Overtime Heartbreaker To Drew, 77-72

MADISON, NJ - Junior center Ricky Fetske (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) broke a 64-64 tie with 0:57 left in regulation but Drew University got a layup with 0:10 to go to force overtime where they outscored the College at Florham Devils 11-6 on their way to a 77-72 (OT) win on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-2.

FDU jumped out to a 15-13 lead on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Adam Katz (Wharton, NJ/Morris Hills) with 8:31 left in the first half.  Drew then responded with an 18-5 run over the next seven minutes to grab a 31-20 advantage with 1:34 to go.  The Devils were able to slice into the lead thanks to five straight points from senior forward Andrew Biancosino (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens) to pull to within 31-25 with 0:26 remaining.  Drew held for the last shot of the half and after FDU forced a bad shot, the Rangers tapped in the rebound to take a 33-25 lead into the break.

Drew got their lead to 10 points, 35-25, on the first possession of the second half but the Devils responded with a 16-7 run to pull to within 42-41 with 13:16 left to play.  The Rangers quickly ripped off a 12-2 run to take a 54-43 lead just five minutes later.  With the Drew advantage standing at 12 points, 58-46, the Devils came back once again this time with a 16-4 eruption that tied the game at 62-62 with 2:43 to go.  Fetske had eight points in the run for FDU.  The two teams traded layups before Fetske put the Devils ahead on his bucket with 0:57 remaining.  Drew missed a jumper on their last possession but got an offensive rebound that turned into the game-tying points.

The Rangers came out with five quick points to start the overtime and held a 73-68 lead with 3:08 left.  FDU scored four in a row to cut it to 73-72 but Drew got points on three consecutive possessions while the Devils couldn't convert allowing the Rangers to escape with a 77-72 win.

Fetske had a monster game, finishing with game-highs of 25 points and 15 rebounds.  Biancosino finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Katz had 10 points and four steals.  Freshman guard Bobby Faiges (Bayville, NJ/Lakewood Prep) added 11 points and five assists.

The Devils return to action on Friday, November 20, at Division I Elon University beginning at 7 pm.
